Comiket Drawing Parade and Alby Figgs Book signing this Saturday

comiket

I’m going to be taking part in the latest Comica Comiket’s Drawing Parade along with a whole load of other comicky talent this Saturday 16th at the British Library 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB (on around about 2.00 pm). It’s also going to be the first opportunity for you braying masses to get your mitts on a signed and scribbled on, brand new Alby Figgs book from the Blank Slate Books table.

Gorgeously dressed by top graphic tailor, Woodrow Phoenix, the Alby Figgs book is now available for sale in all good shops and online through the Blank Slate website.

Admission to the Comiket this Saturday is free, by the way and is part of this month’s Comica Festival. Click the previous link for full details of what’s on. It’s also a good time to catch the final days of the British Library’s Comics Unmasked exhibition if you haven’t seen it yet.

Pleece ID Parade at Comica’s Comiket Today!

comiket

We’re taking part in this Saturday’s Comica Comiket at Central St. Martins this Saturday 20th along with a host of comicy talent, stalls and events. Warren’s taking part in the drawing parade, live scribbling to music and we’ll be signing copies of Montague Terrace at the Cape table. It should also be an opportunity to get your hands on a signed copy of our other book of greatest hits, The Great Unseen, I mean The Great Unwashed. A rare and precious moment!

Comica/ Foyles billboard exhibition

If you’re going up the Charing Cross road in London sometime soon, check out the Comica festival billboard exhibition, in association with Foyles at the site of the soon to be extended bookshop, formerly St Martins Art College. I’ve got a couple of people sized panels up there, based on a true Liz Taylor and Richard Burton story from the 60s, when the Hollywood ledge swiped a book for hubby during a photo-shoot in the famous London bookshop.

Its been up for nearly a month now (ever on the ball, eh?), but it should still be there for the next couple of months. So when you’re getting hassled by your last minute Chrimbo shopping, why not take a peek and get in the way of all the other hassled consumers? There’s some great quirky stories about Foyles, its history and its characters, drawn by some amazing comics talent (and, er, me…), including John Miers, Steven Appleby, JAKe, Karrie Fransman, Krent Able, Bryan Talbot, Hunt Emerson, Woodrow Phoenix, Oliver East, Hannah Berry, Rob Davis, Donya Todd and Rian Hughes.

If you can’t make it to London, you can also see the whole exhibition online here @ http://www.johnmiers.com/Foylescomic/

Helsinki Comics Festival

Had a great time last weekend as a guest of the Helsinki Comics Festival, that also featured a healthy (?) contingent of Brit comics bods, Bryan and Mary Talbot, David Peter Kerr, Sam from Nobrow and the Comica Festival gang, Paul Gravett, Peter Stanbury and Megan Donnolley, alongside an impressive array of talented and enthusiastic Finns. Kiitos Puljon to Otto Sinisalo, Janne and Marie and everyone else at the festival involved with chaperoning us through the lovely city of Helsinki, from main tent to main bar and back again.

You can see pictures of the various events and peebs here.

Special thanks to Lottie and Saskia Pleece for making me so welcome!

That’s Novel @ The London Print Studio

Two posts in one day must be a record and an added treat to my legions of followers, both of you.

If having two exhibitions wasn’t enough for my ego this year, along comes “That’s Novel”, as part of this years collaboration between The Comica Festival and The London Print Studio. Me and brother Gary are exhibiting our old Velocity strip, Pig Custard, soon to be featured in our new (but old) anthology, The Great Unwashed from Escape Books, alongside a great line-up of British and international comic types.

The show starts tomorrow, October 22nd (opening party tonight from 6 p.m.) and runs until December 19th at The London Print Studio in Westbourne Park. Details and info here.
